Japanese Bobtail Picture

Japanese Bobtail - Benji - Photo copyright Helmi Flick

The Japanese Bobtail is famous for the manufactured ornaments, figurines and statues of this cat that are sold in shops and which are outside shops and other establishments for good luck in business. These are the Maneki Neko (Beckoning Cat).

Although this cat breed is recognized by the cat associations in all colors and divisions the coat that is associated with this breed and nearly always seen is the tricolor, tortoiseshell and white or calico with large areas of white and the classic inverted V on the forehead, reminiscent of the Turkish Van. These cats have white (in large amounts), orange and black. There may be odd-eye color too.

The other point of note is that this cat has an exceptionally long history going back over 1000 years. Did this breed arrive from China, Korea or the Kuril Islands? Was the ancestor the same cat that produced the Kurilian Bobtail?

They have a powder puff tail that is unique in design to each individual cat. If you would like to read and see more click on this link.
