Picture Of A Tick
A really nice picture of a really horrible bug, the tick. This is a photograph taken by the veterinary staff at the Cuyahoga Falls Veterinary Clinic. This photo has been used with permission for teaching/educational purposes at www.pictures-of-cats.org (PoC). I want to thank Ryan G. Gates, DVM of the clinic for granting permission. If people want to use the picture please ask the clinic first.
The tick is quite a large parasite. The domestic cat is one of its many hosts. My mother's cat had a tick. She wasn't sure what it was. If you part the fur you will certainly be able to recognize one.
The picture to the left, also by the Cuyahoga Falls Veterinary Clinic and used here with their permission, shows a tick attached to a dog's ear and in the early stages of feeding and therefore much less engorged. The fingers provide a scale to gauge the tick's size. Read more about cat parasites...
