Kurilian Bobtail Picture

Kurilian Bobtail cat - Photograph copyright Helmi Flick

A rare photograph of a rare cat! The photo is by the celebrated Helmi Flick in the USA. The cat is little known, I suspect. Some say that it is the forerunner of the Japanese Bobtail as the Kuril Islands are close to Japan, just off the east coast of Russia and north of Japan. In fact Japan disputes sovereignty of the islands with Russia. However, this is a very different cat to the Japanese Bobtail. Its coat is dense and thick as the Kuril Islands has harsh weather. It was developed by Russian breeders. This is a charming little stocky (cobby) cat and the cat in the picture is a brown mackerel tabby. The head is "trapesium" shaped! Helmi's photograph clearly shows the shape. Click this link to see more.
