This cat looks like Ari Shaffir

Ari David Shaffir is a producer, writer, podcaster, actor and comedian. He was born February 12, 1974 (age 47). He cohosts the podcast Punch Drunk Sports and he is a regular guest on The Joe Rogan Experience pod cast. He was born in New York City to a Jewish family of Romanian Jewish descent. He performed as a stand-up comedian in Los Angeles County in 2013. He's been in films, stand-up specials and on television. In short, he's a celebrity to use modern lingo. He looks like this Oriental Shorthair cat! His long face is a close match to the face of this slender cat breed. The Oriental SH is part of the Siamese cat family of cats. They are deliberately bred to be super slender with long faces and big ears. If you like slender cats the OSH as they are referred to by the cat fancy is the breed for you. The modern Siamese cat as I call it has a very similar face in terms of conformation only it is pointed.

Ugly Cat Picture

The ugly cat picture is one of the many internet cults along the lines of the cheeseburger LOL pics. Many people like them but the cult is dying. Personally I don't like them. Sorry to be a killjoy. I just see either a sick cat, or a wet cat or a photoshopped cat or a badly bred cat with no future.

I don't know a thing about Yoda except this: he is bloody ugly. But what a shame. Someone created him. Shame on them. I feel sorry for Yoda. Although he does not feel sorry for himself as ugliness is a human concept. He appears to be a cat breeding nightmare mistake as nearly all ugly cats are. Read on please....

The first picture looks like a modern Siamese cat or an Oriental Shorthair that is patently overbred even for a cat that is already overdone:

Ugly cat? Yes, and because of misplaced selective breeding. Think of the cat. 

Above: I am not sure I would call this cat an ugly cat, actually. More a sad cat. Breeders like to breed large ears and an oriental style face (long). This fella has a very bony long face that looks artificial and the ears are horribly unnatural.

Ugly cat or sick cat?

The cat immediately above looks like a poorly bred orange tabby Exotic Shorthair with tear duct overflow and jaw misalignment. This is a cat that suffers because of irresponsible breeding and to call the cat ugly is unfair. Apparently deformities of the jaw or teeth are a hazard in breeding the Exotic Shorthair. I mention that on this page: Tabby and White Exotic Shorthair Cat. The picture below is another horrible mess of an attempt to breed a flat faced cat, probably the modern Persian. Madness. We don't see these failed attempts do we?

The 4th and 5th of this fivesome are genuinely ugly. The 4th one is a very peculiar looking cat. The picture looks genuine. There are elements of the face that indicates that this cat is meant to be a Sphynx or a Peterbald (with a brush coat). But who knows? This cat could just be one of those anomalies. The hair is very thin so it might be hairless on a seasonal basis. He appears to have been in a fight as he has a scar on the nose. I could say the same about the 5th and last cat. A mess of a human creation. Botchy humans at the cat's expense.

Something a bit different and why not. I modified the original image which is allowed under the creative commons license. I think it works quite nicely. It's all about personal taste though. I like the shape of the cat in profile. The Oriental Shorthair, as the name implies, has a long face. Cat breeders consider this to be 'oriental' in appearance. What they mean is that they believe that the cats of the eastern part of world, Asia in this instance, have long faces. Cats of the Siamese group of cats have oriental faces and slender oriental bodies. It is in dispute, however, as to whether oriental cats do indeed have long faces and slender bodies.

Final point: I am not convinced that the photographer as stated is in fact the actual photographer of the original image. Please come forward if there is a problem in this regard.

Seychellois Picture

You can see that the rare, Continental European, Seychellois, is a Modern type Siamese/Oriental Shorthair cat in terms of underlying appearance. This is a slender, oriental bodied cat. In profile there should be a smooth, straight line from the forehead to the tip of the nose (no nose break). This cat is both long haired and short haired. It is registered at FIFE, a continental Europe cat association. This is a pointed cat as per the Siamese with bioclor pointing on the face to varying degrees and patterns, the inverted van "V" shape being desirable, it seems. This is called "particolor pointing" as far as I am aware. The ears are large and the face elongated. This is a svelte, slender cat and in terms of temperament it probably follows the Siamese, Balinese and Oriental Shorthair in being vocal, loyal and requiring close human contact. Serengeti Cat Picture

The Serengeti cat is a Bengal cat to Oriental Shorthair hybrid that looks like a wildcat. The coat is a beautiful spotted tabby and the ears are large with rounded tips, inherited from the Oriental Shorthair. The ears should be like those of the serval wildcat; high on the head. The body should be heavy and the eyes should be rounded. The legs and neck should be long. The picture above has been provided by Karen Sausman and shows the desired appearance. The Serengeti is a relatively new and rare purebred cat. This is an elegant and statuesque cat breed that is recognized by The International Cat Association under Preliminary New Breed (2011). Peterbald Cat Picture

A flashy cat photograph by the celebrated Helmi Flick of a Peterbald cat whose name is "Flashy". This is a playful cat that should also be somewhat vocal and demanding as it is a hybrid purebred cat, the result of mating a Don Sphynx with the Oriental Shorthair. The Oriental SH is non-pointed Siamese and the Siamese is vocal! Phew. The Don Sphynx as you might have guessed is a hairless cat, very similar to the Sphynx. The Peterald is a Russian cat breed named after the city St. Petersberg - the "Peter" in St. Petersberg being extracted for the name and added to "bald". However, this cat is not always totally bald. In Flashy you can see the pattern of what would have been his fur if he had some! He is a bicolor. The purpose of this hybrid was to create a more slender hairless cat than the Don Sphynx. Oriental Shorthair Picture

A beautiful Helmi photograph of a very impressive cat. The Oriental Shorthair is a purebred cat that was created in the mid 20th century by breeders to allow them to break out of the constraints of the Siamese cat pointing. The Oriental Shorthair is a contemporary looking Siamese cat with a very wide range of colors. As you can see this is a slender cat at the opposite end of the spectrum to the Persian. Breeders call the slender appearance "oriental" (see cat body types). Initially the breeding program produced a cat that was not so slender. Today in terms of temperament and physique this is a Siamese cat. Without wishing to be critical, the modern Siamese cat has one of the longest lists of potential inherited diseases as will this closely associated cat breed. In the UK, the GCCF classify the "Oriental" cat into eight different coat types (colour/pattern/length). The cat in the picture looks like a silver tabby and white. Through selective breeding the tabby pattern on the body has been almost eliminated to produce a speckled black-on-silver finish.
